Review: Just got back from seeing this and thought Id put in my thoughts.This is by far the most intricate and thoughtful of the Marvel films to date, with a great story and some superb performances, particularly Hiddlestons as Loki. The characters from previous Asgard related outings are there, but thanks to some good writing, are more 3 dimensional and therefore, interesting. This is one of the few films that would have benefited from an extra 15 minutes or so to explore further the motivations of the key protagonists. There is plenty of large scale action, as well as some laugh out loud humorous moments that help to keep this kicking along.I am both surprised and delighted that this is not only the best superhero movie to date, (even eclipsing Spider-Man 2), but currently the best movie Ive seen this year.Dont miss this!

Review: An earlier reviewer compared this to the Japanese cult favorite Battle Royale and decided it was almost junk. I beg to differ - the film needs to be evaluated on its own merits and its own story. Battle Royale is a single story about merciless, wanton and senseless violence and depravity when the aim was simply to be the last to survive - a kill- fest, where the innovative ways of killing serve to shock and titillate the audience but do little for the plot. The Hunger Games however, is about oppression, fighting back and revolution. The Games, though pivotal, are still part of a larger story.Compared to the first film, this one is definitely darker. The characters look even more despondent than ever, and if you thought there were few laughs in the first film, there is practically none in this. Even the brightly-lit scenes featuring cheering crowds and smiling hosts seemed dim, bleak and depressing. While enjoying the witty banter, you couldnt help but wait for the but.... The feeling of doom and gloom persists from the start to the end of the film. It is not a bad thing though - it is not supposed to be a happy movie.Many details and subplots were understandably cut from the film adaptation, but none that were critical to the plot of the film. However, a lot of the peripheral action that were in the book is missing here, hence, though the story moves quickly enough, there is always the feeling that for an action-thriller, there arent enough fights or explosions. The ones they movie do have arent exciting or grand enough.But in terms of story-telling, the movie still works to move from the first film and prepare for the third. The seeds of revolution have been planted and watered, and we now prepare for the maturing and harvesting.Jennifer Lawrence didnt do as well here as in the last film, probably because most of the growing needed has been done previously. Josh Hutcherson though, put in a better performance. While he may previously be the injured lovestruck puppy dog, his maturing into a more complex character in this movie means he starts carrying more of the film.Emotionally, this movie affected me less than the last one. Maybe its partly because I know what is coming, but that accounts for a very minor percentage. Mostly its because the film is unable to engage your baser emotions - nothing that truly tugs at your heartstrings. The pervading gloom also seems to have sapped any ability to feel more despondent than you think you already are.It is still a movie that can be enjoyed though, and I did enjoy it enough. Hopefully the next film will provide for more emotional variance. If you dont feel for the characters, you wont care about the film.

Review: Asking most of the popular UK film reviewers to give valid opinions on this film is like asking my Mum to review a Death Metal album. She couldnt be less interested or less able to judge whether it was good or not. However, watching it with a bunch of 4-10 year olds, the truth is obvious. Kids love Pudsey, they love the crude jokes, talking horses, slapstick pratfalls and the dancing. No, its not Slumdog Millionaire, of course it isnt. Ive seen it criticised for having a simple plot, for John Sessions acting like a pantomime villain (which he does brilliantly), even for relying on Pudseys dancing skills. Its like the reviewers have lost all touch with their inner child. Almost as if they are all ...grumpy old men. Too cool to laugh at a simple fart joke. Too blinkered to see what the film is all about and most importantly, who it was made for. They are upset, indignant! Why is this film being made at all? The British film industry should be making worthy films about..social change, or drug addicts or something. A Dancing dog? Preposterous! A film like this will never score well on sites like IMDb. The target audience just dont come here. They dont spend their evenings online blogging or commenting. They are all asleep in bed. The male 12-25 year olds who do visit this page will hate the very idea of the film. There was a top 1000 voter giving it 1 star before it had even had previews.So what is Pudsey the dog the movie? Its a fun 90 minutes to spend in the school holidays with your kids. Thats all. The young (and young at heart) will love it.

Review: Im not sure why people are putting this movie down. My family came away happy, my son is still mentioning how funny it was.I wont go into detail like most, all I will say is that the whole theater was laughing hard and loud throughout most of the movie, which is what most people want when they go see a comedy, to laugh NOT think.For those that already know Melissa McCarthy, you know what to expect and you will not be disappointed. Add Susan and Kathy and I dont see how you can go wrong. I really think people are putting too many expectations on this.If you dont know Melissa McCarthy then you must live under a rock lol. But still it is funny so just enjoy it like my whole family did!

Review: Wonderful imagery. style and atmosphere in the extreme. great acting. Beauty in many forms: you get a lot for your eyes. Also, depending on your taste in music, there is also a lot for your ears.For your brain, sadly, not as much.Only lovers left alive is filled with a lot of name-dropping, by word, picture and sometimes sound. Whether you find that fascinating or pretentious depends on your taste.But what this movie really lacks is a story. The characters are throughout and the dialogue may be scarce, but has some dry humour and snappy lines. That doesnt save it from going nowhere. Glaring plot holes may make you cringe at times. And the pacing looks like Jarmush tried to surpass Kaurismäki in terms of slowness. If so, he won.So perhaps this movie is best tasted in the state its protagonists enter after relishing an excellent glass of blood: dazed, blissful, and somewhat drugged.
